Who are we?

The ºÚÁÏרÇø University, founded on 15 March 2001, is a private university established by the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED), the educational arm of the Malaysian Indian Congress (), a component party of the Barisan Nasional Government in Malaysia. Located in the northern Malaysian state of Kedah Darul Aman, the university is the brainchild of YB Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu, President of the MIC.

Where are we located?

Location of ºÚÁÏרÇø in Kedah – The permanent campus is in Semeling, which is about 20 kilometres from Alor Star, Kedah’s state capital. Sungai Petani is situated at the crossroads between the capital Kuala Lumpur and the legendary islands of Langkawi. Many attractions can be found in and around Sungai Petani. Click for location map.

Is ºÚÁÏרÇø University a private university? Do you confer your own degrees or conduct twinning programmes with some other universities?

ºÚÁÏרÇø University is a private university established in 2001 and is registered under the Malaysian Private Educational Institutions Act 1996. Being a full fledged university, ºÚÁÏרÇø University awards its own degrees for all courses. Transfer of credits to certain premier Australian universities for validated courses is also possible, as is the case with for Engineering courses, for IT/Comp. Science courses and of Technology for Biotechnology.

Are all the courses offered at ºÚÁÏרÇø University approved by the Malaysian Government?

Yes, all the courses offered at ºÚÁÏרÇø University are approved by LAN (National Accreditation Board, JPS (Dept. of Private Education in the Ministry of Education).

What is the entrance criterion for students to enter ºÚÁÏרÇø University programmes?

Does ºÚÁÏרÇø University provide hostel accommodation for students? If yes, what are the charges?

Yes, ºÚÁÏרÇø University does provide hostel accommodation for local as well as international students in campus residential areas. The cost is RM500 (Local)/RM600 (International) per month and this is inclusive of food (3 meals a day).

Can the students cook in their hostels?

No. Food will only be served at the ºÚÁÏרÇø University Cafeteria.

What is the procedure for an international student to enroll in ºÚÁÏרÇø University?

The application details are available from the website (please click here to download the application form). The International Student Office will process the application and send the details to the Immigration Department to obtain the Student Pass. (This process will take about 3 weeks, so all applications must be received at least 4 weeks preceding the intake date.)

Can I still proceed to enroll without IELTS?

English is the medium of instruction in ºÚÁÏרÇøUniversity; therefore it is a MUST for applicants to
demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:
• MUET / IELTS / TOEFL/ PTE (Academic) or equivalent. (Forthe minimum scores on the English Tests listed, please check the program specifications).
• Successfully completed a prior academic program which was conducted in the English medium
(supported with an official letter from the previous institution confirming on the medium of
instruction).

Can ºÚÁÏרÇø University provide airport pick-up service for international students?

Yes, upon arrival our university’s representative will be at KLIA/KLIA2 airport to receive you and proceed with your immigration clearance. You may choose to travel from KLIA/KLIA2 airport to our pick up point by any of the following method:
• Connecting flight to Penang airport (1 hr)
• ETS train to Sungai Petani station (4 hrs)
• Bus ride to Sungai Petani station (6 hrs)

Is it possible for international students to work on a part-time basis in Malaysia?

Yes, students are allowed to work during their holidays as per Guidelines. However, ºÚÁÏרÇø University can also make arrangements for part-time work within the campus at other times.
